Artimud Hoof Clay
Artimud is a natural clay-based antimicrobial hoof putty. RedHorse trials showed that although Hoof-Stuff was brilliant in deeper cracks and crevices in the hoof it was unable to stay in shallower cracks and on the surface of the hoof. Working from the concept that the only thing which consistently sticks to the areas of the foot needing to be treated was in fact mud RedHorse sourt to create a product with similar properties that had a beneficial rather than detrimental effect – thus Artimud was born.
Artimud can be smoothed, rolled, squashed, spread and molded to stay in the area it was put so its active antimicrobial and healing agents can sort out the problem. It is useful in the treatment of all the same problems as Hoof Stuff (although not as effective in deeper, anaerobic cracks) but is excellent mainly in shallower white line separations, frog clefts, external cracks, thrush etc.
Green french clay – an antimicrobial clay which gives the putty the perfect consistency.
Bio-active honey – for its antimicrobial qualities and ability to make the putty sticky.
Zinc Oxide – a powerful, yet harmless antimicrobial powder
Eucalyptus oil – as well as being a highly effective antimicrobial, this essential oil assists in the toughening of weakened structures.
All the ingredients in Artimud are there to either have an antimicrobial effect or to improve the consistency and hence the longevity of its effect. Please Note: Artimud does not contain tea tree oil as in very rare occasions horses can have an allergic reaction to it and in anaerobic situations the use of tea tree oil can also detrimentally effect the action of beneficial bacterium!
As a general rule deep & narrow = Hoof Stuff, shallow & wide = Artimud. If in doubt test to see if damp cotton wool will pack into the crack, if it will Hoof Stuff will probably work best, if not opt for Artimud. To apply Artimud ensure the crevice is free from debris, if necessary clean the crevice with sole cleanse and allow to dry before applying Artimud and working it well into the crevice. The length of time the Artimud stays put varies dependent on environment and the specific condition. A single application will generally hold for several days so it is only necessary to repeat application when the Artimud has sufficiently worn away if the crevice continues to collect dirt and debris. Artimud is supplied in a 190ml screw top jar.
